History
After the Second World War
there were only a few Mastini left. Piero Scanziani was
the one who saved the Mastino from dying out. He introduced
the breed to a show in the late 1940's. He is the father
of the Mastino. All the friends of the Mastino Napoletano
has to thank Piero Scanziani for this wonderful breed, because
without him this breed would not exist anymore. From the
legendary couple "Pacchiana" and "Guaglione
I " only one female Mastino could be used for breeding
, who became the matriarch of the "Villanova"-
Mastini and ancestor of many champions. His Mastino Guaglione
became patriarch of the breed.
The late Mario Querci from
Prato near Florence with his famous kennels "di Ponzano"
was the one with most Mastino Napoletano champions. A friend
of Mario Querci, Clemente Biondo from Cancello gave Querci
a female Mastino Napoletano called "Fiamma" as
a gift with the promise of a female puppy of the first litter.
